ROXY RAWSON EP Launch

Having been raised in a Mormon community in Hitchin, trained in piano and violin at a Paris conservatoire, self tutored in singing ‘jumping intervals’ and ‘jazz standards’ and then joining an African Choir; it is unsurprising that Roxy Rawson’s idiosyncratic style of music is less than conventional and more than stimulating in it’s eccentricity and finesse.
Violin is at the basis of all of Roxy’s music; on it she plays multiple parts. She is the rhythm section plucking at strings and ring finger tapping the body in time to her percussive vocal delivery. She strums the violin like a ukulele and uses household objects such as biros in place of a bow to create a unique backing track to her vocals and pop inspired melodies. Laughter, humming and scatting garnish this delicious gumbo of sound.
Roxy has already been championed by the Independent on Sunday as the UK’s answer to Regina Spektor and her inimitable warmth and charm is discussed nearly as often as her fruity modus operandi.

Behind The Mic presents ‘A Celebration of Female Creative Talent’

Acclaimed grass roots promoter Behind The Mic bring together some of their best emerging female talent from music, spoken word and comedy. Acts include:
Nicol – Influenced by the likes of Suzanne Vega, Hole, Sheryl Crow, Janis Joplin and Tom Petty, Nicol has has been a featured artist on Bebo / iTunes UK and ‘Everybody Knows’ was Hit Sheet ‘Record of the Week’. Fans already include Elbow, Beverly Knight and Lindsay Lohan (to name but a few) and with a major label release in the pipe line it’s only a matter of time before Nicol is propelled into the mainstream.
Dockers MC - Dockers MC was selected as one of the Top Ten Literary Talents for 2008 by The Times. She recently released the limited edition book/cd Hold To My Ear. Her first book, Mistakes in the Background was published by Harper Collins in November 2008. Her sassy, funny monologues have won over crowds many festivals over, and with the backing of best friend Kate Nash, she's poised for glory.
Phildel - Phildel's music is other-worldly, epic and haunting. Having attracted worldwide audiences as a result of her piano-driven, melodic songs, she is currently working on her first album and will be sharing special previews of some of her new material at The Roundhouse.
Kirstenana –A former weekly resident at Behind The Mic and an Indie Music Award Nominee 2008, Kirstenana’s influences include Erykah Badu, Emiliana Torrini, Fiona Apple and Feist amongst many more.
Pippa Evans – A rising star on the comedy scene, Pippa was nominated for the prestigious if.comedy award 2008. “She is fantastic” Metro

Bonjour ma famille et mes ami(e)s,
Juste un petit mot pour vous dire que malgré la crise je vais bien. Je suis fatiguée mais j'ai le moral ;) Malheureusement je ne pourrai pas vous rendre visite bientôt (Economies oblige ! Je n'ai pas de problèmes de sous mais je suis quand même au centime près ces temps-ci). Entre parenthèses je suis un peu les informations que vous avez en France au sujet de l'Angleterre... Les temps sont durs mais ce n'est pas catastrophique comme les médias le laissent entendre. Les gens perdent leurs emplois mais il y a des entreprises qui continuent à recruter. Les médias ont tendance à se concentrer sur les licenciements et à oublier de mentionner des entreprises qui continuent à se développer et à recruter (par exemple : les entreprises qui ont commencé à investir dans le développement durable, les entreprises de jeux informatiques et de e-divertissement.
